Thrift Finds: March - Aquas and Browns

Hello thrifting lovers everywhere! I am in a good mood this morning as I finally finished filing my taxes! Woo Hoo! I am glad I am organized and I kept good records of everything!

But enough about that, as I have a little treasure trove to share with you. First, as usual, my favorite find of the week; a tiny enamel bowl that I believe to be Emalox, but the sticker is gone, so I am not sure. Any knowledgeable readers out there that can help me?

Tired of not finding much at the thrifts, I went and picked through a local antique store. It is such a trill to find something special that has been priced low. This beautiful Dansk Flamestone Teapot was sitting amidst a group of floral teapots and shabby chic napkins. The poor thing was so out of place! I rescued it and it will be up in the store soon.

On Thursday I went to a local estate sale that did not promise much, yet I found this beautiful De Simone Plate. Giovanni De Simone was a prolific Sicilian artist that studied with Picasso. (Interesting post by Mid2Mod about the artist and the misconception of his relationship with Picasso). His work is whimsical and colorful. I love finding Italian ceramics.

At another estate in the same neighborhood I found this simple and earthy lidded container by SDW (stoneware designs west) a Southern Cal pottery. I really like the handle on the lid, it sure makes a statement.

A nice Takahashi tray with a mod flower design came from the same estate. This one has a bit of surface wear, so I might just keep it.

Last but not least, something that is not aqua nor brown. It is a find from last week that I did not share with you. A very interesting Laurids Lonborg kinetic ball sculpture that I have listed on Ebay. I just wasn't sure how much to sell this one for because my attribution was based on how it looks without a sticker to confirm it. Ebay is a helpful place for this kind of object. I already have one bid on it. Happy!

I am in a very good mood! Happy Sunday to you all. Come and share with us at Her Library Adventures and Apron Thrift Girl

  1. Great stuff! I don't know how to confirm the Emalox but it sure looks like all of the emalox pieces I've seen. I'm glad you rescued the flamestone, it must've looked like the rooster in the hen house, hehe.

    1. Lara, I "think" I am done with them, I did them myself and I am a little worried... I am going to call the IRS with some questions before filing. Good luck with yours.

  3. It's so nice to still be able to find a hidden treasure (at a good price) in an antique store. Here's to knowledge!

  4. Great finds - now that I've seen your Lonborg sculpture, I definitely won't ever miss picking it up! The bowl sure does look like Emalox - is there any sticker residue on bottom? If residue is diamond shaped, it's likely Emalox, though not 100% - Luola had an enamel item with a diamond shape sticker that was from a different company..

  6. Holy moly! That ball scultpure is amazing! Also, we just sold a little bowl that looked just like yours. It had a diamond shaped sticker, so we attributed it to Emalox:

    1. Thanks for the help with the Emalox, I think our bowls were cousins at some time. Measurements agree.

  7. Fantastic finds! I love the Dansk teapot and the de Simone plate. I just did an update post on de Simone the other day, after his widow left a comment on my blog.

  8. Just found you from ATG...your shop is visually beautiful. You California shoppers find the neatest things, sometimes I long to find some modern, Danish pieces but they are far and few here in Maine.
New follower, will be back for eye candy and inspiration. I NEED to get a blog going and an on-line store and start selling some of my old treasures so maybe, I can buy some of those Danish pieces.

  11. Seriously, you find the most amazing stuff! Do you use a white box when taking your shots? They always look so clean!

    1. Wendy, thank you. I use a piece of white paper as a background, natural light from a window, indirect morning light. Photoshop to adjust the white balance. That's all.
