I came home to pack orders, organize my new inventory and of course to try and get everything ready for tax season. I am also getting ready to pack all the orders that WILL come my way from my second Fab sale, which opens Monday the 14th at 7 pm ET.
I am never too busy to stop by my local GW for a thriftbreak. I found this beautiful Dorothy Thorpe Gold Band Chip and Dip Set last Tuesday. A great find because the band is in very good shape, because it was not taped together, and because it was marked 50% off. The gold band is more difficult to find than the silver band, and it is quite elegant in my opinion.
On Thursday I went to a local estate sale where I was happy to find this delicious Blenko 949 Indent Ball Vase designed by Winslow Anderson in 1950. It was covered with dust on a garage shelf. It looks beautiful with my other glass vases so I might keep it for a while.
I also found these cute Figgjo plates at the same sale. These belong to the Corsica series designed by the fabulous Turi Gramstad Oliver. They will be for sale in the store soon.
These wonderful wood sculptures are made by Henning of Norway. The big fisherman sculpture is large at 16" and it is already for sale on Ebay. The darling young fisherman is also listed on Ebay. I made a mistake when listing these and the shipping was very high when the listings started. I think I might have scared some possible customers because of my lack of attention! Oh well. The listings have been fixed though. Both sculptures and several small figurines were also found at the estate sale.
On my way back home I happened to stop at the GW again and there was more gold to be found! Six Georges Briard Glasses were waiting for me. I seem to find a lot of GB glassware, I guess it appealed to the Orange County housewives of the 1950s...
Did you notice how efficient I was this week? Most of my finds are already listed!!! Maybe 2013 will find me more organized. Did you find AND list something this week?

The Figgjo plates are so cute:) I haven't seem that design in Norway yet, but then again, there are so many. I have a book with an overview of the patterns and the history, but it contains far from them all. I don't know if there exists a book with ALL the patterns.
ReplyDeleteI had not seen this design either. Turi Gramstad was so prolific!!! I would love to have a reference book of Figgjo patterns. Thank you for your comment.
DeleteWow, you had great luck after coming back! I wasn't familiar with the Blenko ball, will have to keep an eye out. Same with the large Henning pieces, I've only seen the trolls. Funny we found our DT chip dips at about the same time
ReplyDeleteI had only seen it in pictures, it is one of Blenko's most copied designs so you see it a lot in Blenko or not Blenko articles. I am glad I picked the real thing :)
DeleteLove the gold pieces! I'm so envious of people on the west coast, you folks seem to find the best stuff!
ReplyDeleteSome weeks are better than others for sure.
DeleteGold Band Thorpe is one of the things on my mental thrifting wish list, but I've never seen it in a person. The set you found is stunning! And I agree; MCM stuff is much harder to find the farther east you go. I have never figured out why! PS: I listed NOTHING this week...kudos to you for being so organized!
ReplyDeleteIt is my first DT gold and I think it is beautiful! I want to go to Seattle on a MAD thrifting trip, we will see if it happens...
DeleteGoodwill has this unhealthy obsession with taping everything together anymore. It drives me insane, and more times than not, ruins perfectly great items! Especially vintage board game boxes. Argh, it's a horrible pet peeve of mine, when it comes to Goodwill. Whatever happened to rubber bands, people? :)
ReplyDeleteAlways interesting finds - the vase rocks!
